Very obvious
I saw something in a movie I thought was worth mentioning. I went to see the new fast and the furious movie and saw some subliminal advertising that was obviously intentionally put in. Every time beer is mentioned or shown in the movie it is corona. They even went as far as to put two scenes in were the main character vocally orders coronas and varous other shots of the characters drinking it. There was also another scene where they are getting a car read for a race and it shows them putting oil it. They are using castrol syntec 5w-30 and clearly do a close up of the main character pouring it it. It is obvious he his holding it to perfectly dispay the label and is holding it in a slightly unnatural way. The other thing that makes it obvious is that In a car like that they wouldnt be using castrol syntec while it is a good oil, in a motor that probably cost over 10 grand there are better choices and I really dont think they would cheap out. If they were using castrol syntec they would most likely be using the 0w-30 european formula, as it is a better formula and has a better ad pack than the regular syntec. I just found this funny as both things were very obvious.

speaker
I just wanted to finally mention that I am still missign some of my original posts. I dont have some of the pictures I took at store and ad I saw out and about anymore so I couldnt repost them I also would like to say I found the boeing speaker very interesting and I had no Idea there was that much marketing thought behind a plane. very cool and I was actually glad I missed a research study and had to attend.
I like this commercial
If you cant tell by now I really am into commercials I find them fascinating along with all the behind the scenes thought that goes into them. I think this is a good commercial for porsche it aims at creating a sense of want and status in the porsche brand name for childeren. I think it also conveys a message to older viewers to associate porsche with their child hood dreams. They attach an emotion to the car. I also think it says if you want it bad enough you can get it some day and give hope to people who may not have ever considered being able to own a car like that.
good value communication
One set of commercial I have seen that I thought was very good was the new Nivea for men commercials. They capture their target markets wants and needs very well and do a good job of communicating their products value to the consumer. This is a no nonsense product that works. Exactly like men want. I thought this was good especially after the differences in marketing to men and women were brought up in class.
Lots of line expansion
I have been noticing a lot of companies have been expanding product lines recently. Anheaser bush has recently extended their product lines upward with the release of their bud select and american ales. Hyundai has also been trying to extent their entire image upwards by associating themselves with giants like, BMW, and Lexus. I will say mitsubishi, toyota, and honda all started out the same way but Hyudai still has a way to go.
is there such a thing as a "new product" anymore
I think at this day in age it is very difficult to come up with a "new product". Almost anything can be attributed to its predecessor with some changes or updates. I went a head and found some new products that I thought were pretty interesting such as a golf club/ weed-wacker. I also discovered weggie proof underwear which leads me to ask is there really anything that valuable left to be invented. I will say that the goggles with a built in gps lense seamed like an ingenious idea to me. Being a car guy I will say there have been some very cool inventions and changes in recent years in many automotive areas.
Nailing their target market.
One thing I have to mention here is millers new ad campaign that was shown in class. This is one of the best ad series I have seen in a long time. Its simple and cost effective. It also grabs peoples attention as much as most 30 second ads would. I personally showed the set of all the commercials to at least 5 people online. I think they really nailed there target market with this. Millers primary target market are hard working blue collar americans who want a beer that is affordable and of reasonable quality. I think this type of people will respond well to these commercials and the people portrayed in them.
B2B marketing?????
I started thinking about B2B market and was wondering how much of it is really out there and how much do we as consumers actually see? I know that B2B is a huge industry compared to B2C but how much advertising is really involved. I realized we actually see quite a bit on a daily basis and just don't realize it really. One that I recall that I found interesting was movie theaters advertising for businesses to run their ads before shows. Usually you dont see them advertising this you just see the ads. Another thing you see alot is financial commercials and IT systems for businesses. These industries are becoming increasingly outsourced and commercialized. How many IBM, CISCO and CITI commercials do you see. These are basically all aimed at atrracting businesses. I guess its one of those things we get used to seeing and it gets lost with all the other advertising we are exposed to every single day.
The differences in consumers.
I am amazed at how different people are in their purchasing habits. I personally am very selective when it comes to purchasing most items. I like to take my time and save money specifically for the item if need be. I also tend to do lots of research before I purchase most things. My girlfriend on the other hand is very compulsive in her purchasing and often regrets it. It just surprises me still how different we are. It also strikes me as odd that she is the one who gets stressed out about money, where I am the one who is constantly budgeting to get the things I want am fine with it. Marketers do a very good job of creating apeal for their product to such a wide and dynamic customer base. I can only imagine how many factors they have to consider.
Marketing research
I just was asked to participate in a research study recently. It had to do with web site layouts and product presentation. I was surprised that layouts colors and product presentation actually had an effect on me even though I was aware of what the point of the changes was. By simply changing the color scheme and orientation of the tool bar my opinion of how easy and welcoming the site was changed. Changing the picture of the product they were selling and the initial color scheme seen by the customer also had an affect on my opinion of the product. I was really surprised that any of this made a difference because I was totally conscious of these changes and what the point of them was. Interesting stuff.
Moving ads
Favorite commercial
I found this commercial on youtube at the beggining of the year and put it in one of my first original blog posts. It was obviously run in denmark, it instantly became one of my favorites and I wondered why they didnt run it here with sub-titles. Sure enought a few months later it began running here overdubbed. They actually did a good job too, since the only words actually spoken are by the woman showing the house the language change was not very noticable. Iv probably seen this commercial 50 times now and still smile everytime. Great job by heineken they really struck an emotional connection with there customers on this one.
Best commercials
I am a huge commercial fan, I love football but half the reason I watch the superbowl every year is for the commercials.
It seams that the beer companies allways come up with the most entertaining commercials.
heres the top 10 from 08 beer commercials, specifically Budweiser had 5 out of the top ten. They definitely have a strategy and a huge advertising budget and are good at what they do I would say.
Seems every year they take top honors for best commercials.
